Getting started

With Detail you can connect your iPhone, iPad, or any other camera to your Mac. And it works with your built-in webcam too.


You can use Detail to record and edit video, stream on Twitch or Youtube Live, or as a virtual camera in Zoom, Loom, Meet, and other video calls.

Get the apps

If you haven't already, download and install Detail for macOS to get started.


If you want to use your iPhone or iPad as a camera, just Download Detail for iOS from the App Store.

Connecting your camera

You can connect iOS devices wirelessly or via USB. To get the best image quality and stability, connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac via USB.


If you're using a DSLR or other camera, connect it using a capture card and you should see it as a camera option in Detail.

Selecting your camera

When you open Detail for the first time, you'll see a selection of pre-made Scenes (combinations of cameras, images and text overlays) to help you get started.


You can edit existing Scenes or create a new Scene by clicking the "+" button in the Scenes drawer at the bottom of the window.


If you're editing an existing Scene, click the "Camera" icon in the menu (or press Shift-Command-C) to choose one of your connected cameras.

If you're editing an existing Scene, click the "Camera" icon in the menu (or press Shift-Command-C) to choose one of your connected cameras.

If you're creating a new Scene you'll be prompted to add a camera, image or text when you add the Scene. Click "Camera" (or press Shift-Command-C) add a camera to your Scene.
Using Detail with video call and streaming apps
Once you have Detail set up, "Detail Camera" should appear as an option in the video settings of your favorite streaming or video conferencing app.

Use Detail to stream on Twitch

To stream live on Twitch, you'll need your Twitch stream key and URL. Log in to Twitch.tv and click on your avatar on the top right. Click the Settings tab, then on the Channel and Videos tab to go to the dashboard. You might also have to switch from Channel to Stream on the left navigation menu if you’re not already there by default.


Your stream key is censored by default for privacy. Click the Copy button to copy your stream key. Your stream URL for Twitch is always "rtmp://live.twitch.tv/app/."


To stream on Twitch with Detail, hit the “Stream” icon in the toolbar, add your Twitch Stream Key and URL and hit "Stream".


You can switch between cameras, angles, and Scenes in Detail — the main preview window shows what your audience will see on your stream. You can also record locally while your stream.


You can see your streaming status and how long you’ve been live for in the top corner of the frame.

Stream directly to Youtube Live on your Mac

To find your Youtube Live stream key and URL, log in to YouTube.com - and click on your avatar on the top right, then click the "YouTube Studio" tab. If you haven't gone live before, you’ll get a prompt to verify your account first.  


Click the Go live button on the top right and switch to the Stream tab on the left navigation menu. Click the Copy button to copy your stream key and stream URL. 



To go live in Detail, click the “Stream” icon in the toolbar, add your Youtube Live Stream Key and URL and hit "Stream".


You can switch between your Scenes in Detail in real-time as well as record all of your Scenes locally while you stream.


Your streaming status and the amount of time you've been streaming for will appear the top corner of the frame.

Use for phone or camera for Zoom calls

There are two ways to select Detail as your camera in Zoom.


If you want to change your camera selection in Zoom when you're not on a call, just head to "Preferences" and click on the Video tab on the left side of the window.


You should see a dropdown menu under "Camera". Click here and select "Detail Camera". If you can't see "Detail Camera", make sure you have Detail installed on your Mac.


You can also change your camera selection while on a call. Just above the camera icon at the bottom of the window, there's a little arrow button. Click this arrow (or press Shift-Command-N) to select a camera. You should see "Detail Camera" as an option in the menu.

Use your iPhone or camera for Around calls

To use Detail in Around, open "Preferences", click on the Video pane and select "Detail Camera" under "Active Device."


If you're already on a call, you can select a different camera by clicking on the dropdown menu beside the camera icon at the bottom of the Around window.

Use your iPhone or camera for video calls on Meet

If you want to change your camera in Google Meet while you're not on a call, click More > Settings. On the left, click Video > Camera, select the Detail Camera and hit "Close". 


To change your camera while you're not on a call, head to meet.google.com, click Settings > Video. Here you can select Detail Camera. If your camera is working properly, you should see your video feed on the right. Click Done to confirm your camera selection.
