The rear camera of your iPhone captures higher quality video than the front-facing camera. However, this creates a practical problem: when using the rear camera, you can't see yourself while recording. This makes it difficult to know if you're properly framed or if your shot looks good. With Detail for iOS and iPadOS you can use your iPad as a monitor while recording with your iPhone's rear camera.
The iPad Monitor Solution
With Detail you can use your iPad as a monitor while recording with your iPhone's rear camera. This setup combines higher video quality with the ability to see yourself during recording.
How to Mirror iPhone Camera to iPad
Follow these steps to mirror your iPhone's camera to your iPad:
Open Detail on both your iPhone and iPad
Start a new project on both devices
On both devices, click the icon in the top right with a person and a plus sign (👤+)
On your iPad, go to the bottom menu, select Layout and choose Single Layout
On your iPad, open the canvas menu and select Swap Sources to mirror your iPhone's camera
Hit record on either device to begin recording
Using iPhone and iPad Together
The iPhone's rear camera captures higher quality video compared to the front-facing camera
Real-time monitoring on the iPad lets you check framing, lighting, and positioning as you record
Recording starts across both devices with a single tap
Optional Equipment for Your Setup
While this works with just your iPhone and iPad, adding a simple microphone and a tripod can enhance your setup:
Boya BY-V2: Add professional audio to match your improved video
ATUMTEK Selfie Stick: Flexible positioning options for your iPhone
