Hot on the heels of our last release, we just dropped Detail 3.5, another jam-packed update that includes new features like:
Highlights: Share the most important parts of your video with AI-generated clips.
Importing video: You can now add video to the timeline from outside Detail.
Multi-channel audio: Record multiple speakers or audio sources separately.
Reordering clips: Clips in the timeline can now be reordered to make editing easier.
App Store: Detail is now available exclusively on the Mac App Store.
Plus lots of bug fixes and improvements.
Read on or watch the video to find out more.
Share the most important parts of your video
We’ve all been there — you’ve finished your edit and the video is looking great but now you need your best bits to share on social media. Cropping, editing and exporting these additional clips (usually in vertical and horizontal formats) can be time consuming and frustrating. But now Detail Studio can do it for you.
Detail's new highlights feature auto-magically generates short video clips from your long form content, along with titles, descriptions and subtitles.
We've harnessed the power of natural language AI to identify the most important parts of your video. Then we package up your highlights, ready for sharing on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or anywhere.
All you need to do is export your video in Detail, hit the “Create Highlights button and, if your video is long enough, Detail Studio will generate the highlights on your video share page. Check out this post to learn more about highlights or take a look at this demo page to see them in action.
Super-charged editing
In our last release we added Combo Scenes and vertical video, unlocking powerful new editing workflows that let you remix your scenes and clips to create really dynamic content.
In this release, we’ve made it possible to import external video so you can grab existing videos and edit them in Detail Studio. This is a great way to create and export vertical videos or quickly edit videos you already have.
It also means you can easily add intro and outro clips to your videos or live streams in Detail Studio.
We’ve also added the ability to reorder your clips on the timeline so you no longer have to record and edit in a linear way. Want to shoot a pickup to cover a mistake? Record it at the end of the timeline, move it to the right place in your video, and either add a scene switch or a zoom cut to cover any jumps in your footage.
Check out this tutorial on recording and editing in Detail to find how to make the most of these new features.
Podcast recording just got even easier
Detail Studio has changed the game for podcasters, offering a simple way to capture your whole conversation at once. Recording multi-camera video has never been easier but up until now, something’s been missing — and that something is audio.
In this update, we’re adding support for multi-channel audio so, now, when you record multiple microphones or other inputs via an audio interface, Detail captures all these channels separately and saves them as a multi-channel .wav file.
You can grab this audio file from your Detail project, drop it into GarageBand, Logic, Pro Tools or your favorite DAW, mix and master it, and save it back into your project. Then, when you play back your video in Detail, you’ll hear the new audio.
Note: you’ll need to make sure that your new audio file is the same length and has the same name as the original .wav file. We also recommend duplicating your project before you make any changes, just in case something goes wrong and you need to revert.
Once your audio is exactly how you want it, you can edit, remix and export your video like you normally would and take advantage of Detail-only features like highlights to get shareable clips from your longer recordings.
If you prefer to shoot multi-camera video in Detail and edit in another app like Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve, your multi-channel audio file is included in the one-click FCPXML export.
Download Detail Studio on the Mac App Store
On top of all that, Detail Studio for Mac is now available on the Mac app store.
As of today, Detail will be moving to the Mac App Store, exclusively. If you've installed Detail via our website or SetApp, you'll need to reinstall it from the Mac App Store to get updates and keep using Detail. But don’t worry, other than that, nothing’s changing:
There’s no need to uninstall Detail: just install from the Mac App Store and we'll take care of the rest.
We wont move your stuff around: after updating your Library and projects will be right where you left them.
Still Free: Detail is still free and we plan to introduce a paid option later.
Heads up — after you update, you might have to reset your screen sharing permissions. Here’s how to do that.
For a small team like ours, this move will enable us to spend less time on the boring stuff and more time on building a better product for creators!
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, you can find us on Discord or support@detail.co. And you can follow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube.
