Now that you’ve seen the layout of the app, it’s time to create your very first video in Detail. In this guide, we’ll walk through the basics of recording, editing and sharing so you can make a complete video from start to finish.

Recording your first clip

Tap the big plus button in your library to open the recording screen. Recording is straightforward: press the big pink button to start and tap it again to stop. You’ll be recording with the front camera by default, but you can switch to the back camera with the swap icon on the left.

If you want to get creative, you can record with both cameras at the same time. Tap Layout at the bottom and choose a style like picture-in-picture, circle, split in half or split in thirds depending on the look you want.

Editing your clip

Once you stop recording, your clip will appear in the timeline. Just tap a clip to start editing. You can split a clip into sections, delete anything you don’t need and zoom in on the timeline for more precise edits.

If you already have footage you want to work with, you can import it instead of recording. Tap Import video at the bottom of the screen. You can pull videos directly from your camera roll or paste a URL to import from the web. Detail will bring the video straight into your project so you can begin editing right away.

Exporting and sharing

When your edits look good, tap Export in the top right corner. Here, you can save your video to your camera roll, copy a share link to send your video to anyone, export only the audio or download a transcript. You can also get AI-powered text suggestions like titles and descriptions for your video.

In the next guide, we’ll explore layouts and overlays to help your videos stand out even more. See you in the next one.
